Zuria Dor is looking for an exceptional Grant Funding and Investment Officer to join the brand. The officer will be a critical member reporting directly to the CEO ensuring effective and efficient funding processes, always up to date with national and international funding programs applicable to the various aspects of the business and a key networker who is well connected/or can establish connections with the private and public sector enterprises. The officer will also efficiently manage the funding database.

Essential skills for consideration include highly tuned detail orientation, strategic thinking, and a process and system mindset. A successful officer will be adept at managing a project from inception to completion and have an innate ability to prioritise and synthesise information in an analytical and systematic manner. A comfort with ambiguity and competing priorities is vital. Candidates should be exceptionally strong written and oral communicators, great listeners, instinctual information sharers, and network builders. The officer will be motivated by passion for growth and a drive for continuous learning and improvement. S/he will be a project manager, consultant, analyst, and problem solver with exacting standards and an eye towards creativity and innovation. This role requires an individual who can balance strong attention to detail and analytical skills with an engaging, consultative, relationship-focused approach to working with people.

How you will contribute:

1. PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND PROCESSING

  • Liaise and coordinate with the CEO for development of a good quality funding pipeline.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local/international partners and government officials to develop specific investment opportunities.
  • Prepare project reports for presentation to the CEO.
  • Prepare and process through to approval, disbursement and implementation, technical assistance of proposals.
  • Coordinate with sector colleagues to proactively find pragmatic solutions to emerging/specific sector challenges.
  • Develop funding strategies including targeting potential funders.
  • Work with legal department to ensure that all deals have appropriate legal documentation and that financial close is achieved.

2. FUNDING MANAGEMENT

  • Maintain working knowledge of funding areas and remain up to date of current research, activities, and trends in the sector.
  • Maintain regular communication with relevant government institutions, foreign bodies.
  • Monitor funding for legal, financial, and program compliance including but not limited to ensuring that grant requirements are correctly documented in the grant files and database.
  • Monitor and document the funding workflow processes, forms, templates, reports and data to assure full compliance with internal controls and legal requirements.
  • Generate reports and data analysis for CEO.
  • Problem-solve complex funding scenarios; consult/liaise with finance and/or legal counsel.
  • Work with finance to generate reporting required for compliance and financial statement audits.
  • Ensure accurate and adequate paper and electronic document retention.

3. SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION

  • Manage implementation of a new funding management system and other technology improvements, including development plans and timelines, staff communication, testing and troubleshooting, documentation, training, and release cycles.
  • Administer the current and future funding database system, including managing data hierarchy, data quality, data retrieval, coding and reporting, particularly with respect to compliance, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning.
  • Ensure all relevant staff are aware and knowledgeable of funding management processes and technology to the degree their functions require. This includes designing dashboards and training staff of all departments formally and informally.
  • Implement and maintain protocols for testing and reconciling data accuracy and making timely and accurate database changes.
  • Manage system upgrades, troubleshooting, and roll-out of updates including staff notifications and training.
  • Develop training materials and standard operating procedures. Maintain electronic manuals and update program section of policy and procedures manual. Document system procedure changes and trains users on any updates.

 4. GRANT MONITORING AND EVALUATION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Improve the way staff capture, access, and use funding to enhance programmatic and operational decision-making, produce accurate reports of results, enhance grantee/grant seeker relationships, and enable learning; enhance supporting systems and tools.

 5. EXTERNAL LIAISON AND KNOWLEDGE SHARING

  • Contribute to the documentation of lessons learned from investment operations and emerging best practices in areas of expertise.
  • Participate in and contribute to information and experience sharing sessions with internal and external stakeholder.
  • Participate in and contribute to activities for advocacy, dissemination and knowledge building relating to investments, products and initiatives.
  • Provide peer review to other colleagues to share industry knowledge and information on respective sector.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to knowledge and lesson sharing approaches and events with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local/international partners and government officials to develop specific investment opportunities.

 6. POLICY AND PROJECT EVALUATION

  • Provide input and comments on project, policy and other papers related to respective sector operations and development across a range of key themes and sectors.

 7. STRATEGY, PLANNING AND REPORTING

  • Participate in relevant teams for planning and programming purposes.
  • Contribute to and coordinate in the investments inputs development of strategies.
  • Assist in the development of knowledge management strategy, and assist in execution of this strategy.
  • Coordinate closely with social, environmental, advisory and technical assistance colleagues in order to champion our business value, find pragmatic solutions to the specific sector challenges, and achieve sustainable development impact.

 Ideal Candidate:

  • Must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Ability for business development, structure and negotiate deals
  • Having private sector experience will be an added advantage
  • Demonstrates in depth knowledge of policy, regulation, supervision and enforcement
  • Demonstrates ability to coordinate, participate in, and act as a catalyst for, strategic cross-sector dialogues within the networks, across the country and other development institutions, governments and other organisations
  • Knowledge of economic developments and market trends
  • Ability to contribute to sound decisions and contribute to the execution of the decisions
  • Ability to initiate, effectively and independently interact with government officials, management of potential funding bodies
  • Strong commitment to search for and produce innovative and creative approaches to activities in order to enhance performance and create added benefits
